Swords to Plowshares' 21st Annual Veterans Day Dinner Honoring Local Veterans
SAN FRANCISCO (PRWEB) November 09, 2017 -- On Friday, November 10th, Swords to Plowshares, San Francisco’s leading nonprofit veteran service agency, will host its 21st annual Veterans Day Dinner and Profiles of Courage Award Ceremony.
Over 500 community supporters will join to pay tribute to Swords to Plowshares and their tireless efforts to serve thousands of Bay Area veterans and improve their lives. This year, Swords to Plowshares recognizes the dedicated commitment to pro bono services from Cooley LLP and honor our Profiles of Courage, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Miguel Briseño Jr and U.S. Navy veteran, Starcia Cousar. The Master of Ceremony will be Michael Krasny, the host of KQED’s award-winning Forum.

“We take tremendous pride in demonstrating the impact of our work and our veteran clients who overcame incredible obstacles in their transition from combat to community,” said Swords to Plowshares Executive Director Michael Blecker. “As a Vietnam veteran myself, their stories inspire me. I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Veterans Day than honoring these vets who have come so far.”
The following awardees will be recognized:
The law firm of Cooley LLP, will be named the 2017 Pro Bono Partner of the Year; their involvement since 2014 includes serving on the pro bono advisory board, staffing legal clinics, taking on individual veterans’ cases, and serving on Swords to Plowshares board of directors. Attorney John Keker, a founding partner at the law firm of Keker, Van Nest, & Peters LLP, will present the award.
Miguel Briseño Jr, an Operation Desert Shield, Desert Storm combat veteran, father of six children, former housing client at Swords to Plowshares; Starcia Coursar, a US Navy veteran, single mother of three young children, and former housing, employment, and legal client of Swords to Plowshares, will be presented with the 2017 Profile of Courage. Each year, Swords to Plowshares recognizes veterans who have turned their lives around and shown great courage in the face of adversity with the Profiles of Courage award. Their stories of triumph speak to the full range of services that Swords to Plowshares provides and illustrate the success of the organization’s nationally-recognized programs.

Our Veterans Day Dinner allows us to raise the crucial funds needed to serve San Francisco’s veteran population. Without support from the community, our work would not be possible,” said Mr. Blecker.
