Author Betsy Burch is a below-knee amputee who inspires others to lead the most active life possible, regardless of their physical challenges. In “A Girl Named Betsy” (published by Archway Publishing), Burch opens up about the personal struggles she has faced and focuses on the shared strength and solidarity that comes with living.
Burch writes about how she has never known a life without physical problems. “I was born without my tibia in my right leg and my hands were webbed,” she explains. “Through many surgical corrections my hands work very well, despite looking a little different.”
Despite the challenges she faced, Burch was determined to live a full life. Moving between flashbacks and present-day accounts, the book offers a narrative that examines how certain experiences in life can push one forward toward successes one would never have imagined.
“The news media can trap so many people in and they start believing the negativity they are watching,” says Burch. “I want my book to provide a different view point. One where we can be inspirational to each other, helping each other grow and achieve our greatest potential and soul purpose.”
