After 22 years in law enforcement and 8 years leading a security guard company, I wanted to start a company that would provide higher levels of security at a lower cost by combining technology and law enforcement experienced personnel.

SMART Security Pros, a Baltimore/Washington, DC area private security firm announced the launch of its MobileVideoGuard.com brand. Mobile Video Guard units are utilized for site security and surveillance where a full hard wired installation of video surveillance equipment is impractical and or impossible. SMART Security deploys their Mobile Video Guard units to protect and provide security for construction sites; special events; festivals, fairs and concerts; parking lots; utility sites; churches, temples and synagogues; as well as a host of other environments.
Mobile Video Guard surveillance units come in two different variations. The Mobile Video Guard Trailer is a totally self-sustained mobile trailer unit that is solar powered and has the ability to send video alerts and live streams to SMART Security’s Real Time Operation Center. The trailer has a mast that is raised to 30 feet in the air which has a camera box on top of it. Each box contains a minimum of 9 camera lenses, typically configured as 2 lenses on each side one for day viewing and 1 for night viewing, as well as 1 lens looking down over the area around the trailer itself. This setup gives the trailer the ability to see a 360 degree view from where it is placed and see great distances from that height.
The Mobile Video Guard Pole/Wall Mount units are a compact version of the system that can be mounted on a pole or wall for either interior locations or areas where the trailer system would not fit.
All of the Mobile Video Guard units can be equipped with a loudspeaker so that SMART’s video surveillance agents can either play pre-recorded warning messages or talk live to the site. This is a great deterrent to criminal activity and lets the criminals know they are being watched. Additionally, red and blue police style strobe lights can be affixed to the unit for further crime deterrence.
Specialty camera lenses can easily be swapped out on the units to add services like license plate recognition or fire detection. The latter is accomplished through the use of thermal cameras with thermal radiometry technology. This allows SMART to program camera views to detect even the slightest change in temperature above a set threshold. These cameras can detect heat changes down to .5 degrees Celsius. The thermal cameras are also perfect for long range intrusion detection, alerting to perimeter intruders over 1,000 feet away.
SMART Security Pros’ founder, Shawn Scarlata, says, “After 22 years in law enforcement and 8 years leading a security guard company, I wanted to start a company that would provide higher levels of security at a lower cost by combining technology and law enforcement experienced personnel. I don’t think of us as a security firm, I look at us as a stress relief company. I want our service to provide stress relief to project managers, superintendents, and event planners. Yes, we will protect your site from intrusion, but we also do so many other things. Like providing a time lapse video of the entire project or event upon completion; or the daily 2am Weather Alert email we send to construction project managers, which allows them to cancel sub-contractors from showing up in inclement weather thus saving their budget from wasteful spending.”
SMART Security Pros Real Time Operations Center (RTOC) is staffed by surveillance agents who all have prior law enforcement and military experience. SMART believes these individuals, because of their life experiences and training, have an ability to detect criminal activity faster and more accurately than someone without those experiences. This can be critical when protecting sites and lives at a remote location when every second counts in notifying local law enforcement or emergency services.
SMART’s other primary service division provides high level security personnel services, typically armed assignments. All of these assignments are staffed by active and prior law enforcement officers.
