For November’s Adoption Awareness Month, Family Formation Law Offices recognizes Adoption Attorney Megan Cohen’s 101st adoption since taking the helm at the firm in 2013. A birth mother herself (https://helpwithadoption.com/why-i-put-my-baby-up-for-adoption/), Megan is committed to providing ethical adoptions nationwide made in the best interest of the “adoption triad”: the birth mother, the adoptive parents and the child.
“Adoption has been a part of my life for nearly 30 years. I feel lucky to be able to say that I love the work I do. I am constantly and deeply inspired by the women I’ve met over the years. Walking hand in hand with them through one of the most stressful and frightening times of their lives is an honor.”
Megan maintains an interactive website where she provides advice and insight to expectant mothers thinking about adoption. These topics range widely from open vs. closed adoptions, birth father’s rights, the grieving process and how to make an adoption plan. Her helpwithadoption.com site also includes multiple first-person accounts by birth mothers, describing their adoption journeys, grieving process, and how they’ve been able to move forward. Megan offers expectant mothers a unique perspective. They know she’s been there and can tell them what being a birth mother is really like.
In addition to her adoption practice, Megan runs a thriving full-service surrogacy program exclusive to Northern California which matches intended parents who cannot have children for medical reasons with women who love being pregnant and are thrilled to be gestational surrogates. She has helped build over 200 families through surrogacy and assisted reproductive technologies.
Megan is the Co-Chair of the Alternative Families Committee of the American Bar Association, as well as the author of many articles in various family law related publications. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband and daughters.
