Women In Technology Announces Winners of the 2017 Women of the Year Awards
ATLANTA (PRWEB) November 17, 2017 -- Women in Technology (WIT) announced the winners of its annual Women of the Year in Technology Awards, presented by NCR, at its WIT Awards dinner held last night at the Georgia Aquarium.
WIT’s Women of the Year Awards gathers top members of Georgia’s STEAM community to recognize and announce the Women of the Year for their accomplishments as leaders in business, visionaries of technology, ground-breakers in business, and remarkable leaders who make a difference in our community.
One winner from each category, representing Non-Profit Organization, Small/Emerging Organization, Medium/Mid-Size Organization and Educational Institution, and Large/Enterprise Organization was selected.
NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION CATEGORY WINNER:
Jennifer Bonnet, Director, Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC)
SMALL/EMERGING CATEGORY WINNER:
Denise Hines, Executive Director/CEO, Georgia Health Information Network & eHealth Services Group
MEDIUM/MID-SIZE ORGANIZATION & EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION CATEGORY WINNER:
Maryam Alavi, Ph.D., Dean and Professor, Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business
LARGE/ENTERPRISE CATEGORY WINNER:
Connie Taylor, Vice President, Global Research and Development, Manhattan Associates

WIT Girl of the Year Award
Elaine Wen, a junior at North Springs Charter High School, was recognized with the WIT Girl of the Year Award which is sponsored by Scintel Technologies. Wen, an active member of the WIT Girls program, hopes to study computer science and business in college. She credits WIT with providing her with hands-on experiences that have expanded her knowledge of the technology industry.
“WIT Girls has better equipped me because it has allowed me to gain confidence and exposure to a lot of experiences that I otherwise wouldn’t have known,” said Wen.
This year, for the first time, each Girl of the Year runner up was presented with a $1,000 scholarship from Mercedes-Benz, Samsung Galaxy S7 cell phone from AT&T and an Inspiron 13 2-in-1 laptop from Dell.
The WIT Girl of the Year award was created in 2012 as part of WIT’s commitment to support the entire lifecycle of a woman’s career in technology, and is presented annually as part of the Women of the Year in Technology Awards. The WIT Girl of the Year is always a middle or high school girl who is recognized as the Girl of the Year for her participation in the WIT Girls program.
