“My early childhood years were spent playing on the block in early morning till around noon when without a bell or a yell I’d go up to my apartment for lunch. Later, it was back downstairs for more outside play of jump rope, hide-and-go-seek, dodge ball, hot peas and butter, and other games. Attending church now and then led to my attending and joining the Cathedral choir as a teenager. Soon I meet the Lord and began my Christian journey.” --Deborah Battle

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Deborah Battle’s new book is a collection of original songs, short stories, and nursery rhymes for the young at heart.

A number of oral short telling methods has been used universally to speak about truths, family matters, and world happenings for thousands of years. Young and old alike enjoyed oral stories before television was created and popularized. When told in the classroom or before bedtime, oral stories help the young learn while developing their imagination. Short in length, oral stories and the experience they provide can best be captured in short stories.

As a form of written and oral storytelling, poetry teaches children creative and expressive ways to use language. Poetry written for holidays and special occasions helps introduce the young to this art form.
