Hippie Wall Tapestries Help Students ‘Create’ Their Way Out of Poverty
(PRWEB) November 23, 2017 -- Third Eye Tapestries, a company that produces trippy and hippie wall tapestries from the artwork of independent photographers and artists, has partnered with Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) to transform the lives of under-served children through the power of arts education.
A portion of every tapestry purchase is donated to ASTEP, a non-profit organization that collaborates with schools and community organizations to awaken imaginations, foster critical thinking, and help break the poverty cycle in youth through performing and visual arts.
“Art has proven time and time again to empower children in school and teach essential life skills,” said Vincent Carbone, the spokesperson for the tapestry company. “Arts education across the globe has long been underappreciated, and this is especially true in schools that could benefit from it the most, those filled with students of low socio-economic status.”
According to a 2015 study conducted by The President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities (PCAH), students who study art are four times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and three times more likely to be awarded for school attendance.
In 2002, the No Child Left Behind Act mandated ‘The Arts’ as a core academic subject. But a 2011 National Endowment for the Arts study showed that childhood arts education was still disproportionately withheld from students with a low socio-economic status.
ASTEP provides arts education to a population of youth affected by refugee status, homelessness, gun-violence, incarceration, the justice system, HIV/AIDS, systemic poverty, and the caste system.
“Third Eye Tapestries’ business model was built to support human creativity,” Carbone said. “By donating a portion of our sales to an amazing organization that gives children born with few choices important tools and instruction to create, draw, or dance their way to success, we are supporting that mission.”
