Local Fire Department to Torch Vehicles in the Name of Safety
Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 27, 2017 -- On Tuesday November 28th at 6:00 PM, La Porte Fire Department, Southeast of Houston, will be training its firefighters with a controlled vehicle burn demonstration. According to a 2016 study by The National Fire Protection Association, there were 173,000 vehicle related fires in the United States. During this demonstration, firefighters will be trained using various types of equipment and methods that are regularly seen during these vehicle related fires.
Infinity Insurance donated late model vehicles to help firefighters prepare for what they might face during this busy holiday driving season. "Our close relationships with local police and fire departments allows Infinity to create something positive with these hurricane-flooded vehicles,” said Tony Smarrelli, SVP of Claims for Infinity.
Research proves that the holiday season is by far the busiest time of the year with families traveling in and out of town. A recent study from the U.S. Department of Transportation showed that approximately 90% of long distance travel is by road in personal vehicles, averaging 200+ miles for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Due to the high volume of holiday travelers, the roadways become targets of vehicle accidents every year. The National Safety Council estimates that 48,500 injuries will occur over this year’s holiday season. In an effort to increase public awareness of the dangers associated with holiday travel, La Porte FD and Infinity Insurance have made these training exercises public.
