BIA To Honor Smart Growth Pioneer Hasan Ikhrata
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (PRWEB) November 27, 2017 -- The Building Industry Association Baldy View Chapter will honor Southern California Association of Governments Executive Director Hasan Ikhrata – one of the region’s foremost smart growth pioneers – at the association’s annual holiday gala next month in Pomona. Proceeds will benefit HomeAid, a leading nonprofit provider of housing for today’s homeless.
Ikhrata is considered one of the preeminent transportation experts in the nation, promoting smart growth approaches to land development that combine higher-density, transit-oriented mixed-use neighborhoods. He has more than 25 years of public and private sector experience in transportation planning in Southern California and is credited with being a transformational and unifying leader in fostering public participation in the development of regional transportation plans. Prior to joining SCAG, he worked for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the South Coast Air Quality Management District. He holds degrees in Civil and Industrial Engineering from Zaporozhye University in the former Soviet Union; a master’s in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles; and Ph.D. candidacy in Urban Planning and Transportation from the University of Southern California.
The President’s Award will be presented to Ikhrata as part of BIA Baldy View’s 2017 Annual Holiday Charity Gala to be held Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Sheraton Conference Center, 601 West McKinley Ave., in Pomona. For information, visit http://bit.ly/2iVEpYZ.
“Hasan Ikhrata has an amazing wealth of knowledge and insight into the future needs of L.A.’s urban environment,” said BIA Baldy View President Ali Sahabi. “His pioneering spirit – reflected in an ongoing push to do what is right – is what is needed to address regional housing affordability and transportation needs now and long into the future.”
Randall Lewis, Executive Vice President of Lewis Group of Companies, praised SCAG’s accomplishments under Ikhrata’s leadership to promote housing availability and affordability.
“Hasan is a leader in the industry’s growing movement to address these challenges and promote the American Dream of homeownership,” Lewis said. “California is experiencing a severe shortage of two million homes, and housing affordability is ranked 29th in the nation. The innovative approaches being implemented through SCAG are making a difference in the ability of our children and our children’s children to buy homes in Southern California.”
