Northeast Technical Institute recently concluded a new training program for electricians to ensure they had the skills and knowledge businesses need. The twenty-hour refresher course was a direct response to employer needs recognized by the staff at Northeast Technical Institute.
Designed for licensed electricians, the course covered a number of basic situations employees could encounter on a daily basis as HVAC/R professionals. Additionally, the Northeast Technical Institute instructors created troubleshooting scenarios for participants to solve in order to put their training to practical use. The training was held on two Fridays for a total of 10 hours, minimizing employees’ time away from their day-to-day duties. For this first iteration, Northeast Technical Institute partnered with Gelinas HVAC Services and Dead River Company with the companies funding the training.
“The feedback was very positive,” said Justin Zandan, President & Owner of Gelinas HAVC Services. “There was a healthy balance of classroom knowledge and fundamental understanding, immediately followed up through ‘real life,’ hands-on experience.”
Cheryl Matthews, Administrative Services Manager at Dead River Company added: “Continuing education is important for our techs as they work to provide our customers with heat and hot water during our heating season and though out the year. We are very fortunate to have Northeast Technical Institute nearby to help us meet our training needs.”
The course was led by Northeast Technical Institute’s HVAC/R Managing Instructor, Robert Horr, who has been designing and leading the school’s HVAC program for the past five years.
Northeast Technical Institute plans to offer similar, company-sponsored training opportunities in the future.
Offered at the Scarborough and Bangor campuses, Northeast Technical Institute’s HVAC/R Technician program provides technicians with the theory and knowledge required for installation, maintenance and repair of residential and light commercial systems. The next courses begin December 11 in Scarborough and January 10 in Bangor.
