Application-transparent solution visualizes and enforces policy-based encryption and access control for all communication between microservices

BanyanOps, Inc. announces the availability in private beta of the Banyan Security Mesh for Amazon’s AWS Elastic Container Service (ECS), extending its existing support for Kubernetes, Mesos Marathon, Docker Swarm, and Linux environments. DevOps teams deploy the Banyan Security Mesh - with no change to application code or configuration - to get real-time, auto-discovered, service dependency maps with container-level visibility, and to specify and enforce communication encryption and L4-L7 access control policies not just between microservices within ECS, but also external services accessed by the applications, batch jobs, and microservices running in ECS.

While cloud providers like Amazon AWS provide platform-level visibility and controls, enterprises are themselves responsible for application-level controls and traffic management. That is where Banyan’s security-driven service mesh comes into play which offers application-transparent and infrastructure-agnostic service management that works seamlessly across new and existing environments (e.g., Databases, Message Queues).

Featuring extensive audit trails and a convenient time slider interface to visualize past behavior and policy settings, the Banyan Security Mesh lowers the cost to ensure regulatory compliance and least privilege access for best practice security, and raises developer productivity by lightening their security burden. Operators use the Banyan Security Mesh through its intuitive graphical dashboard or programmatically through its REST API.

The Banyan Security Mesh for AWS ECS integrates with AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to automatically assign IAM roles to traffic between containers that implement microservices, applications, or batch jobs. Communication is transparently mediated by the Banyan Security Mesh to ensure it is automatically encrypted using well configured TLS and conforms to user specified L4-L7 access control policies based on the IAM roles.
