After most minor and medical surgeries, wounds are debrided, disinfected and sealed. In order to promote healing and prevent infection, dressings are applied to the wound and changed regularly. These dressings are usually held in place by adhesive or bandages. Medical binders also are used for body support for the patient and to make sure that dressings stay in place. "I want to offer surgery patients an improved medical binder to optimize protection and support," said an inventor and nurse from Tamarac, Fla.

The PERINEUM BINDER optimizes protection of a surgical site. It helps to promote healing and prevent infection, as well as ensures proper support and stability for dressings. This results in peace of mind and comfort.

The invention features an elongated band that would wrap around the patient’s lower body. It also features multiple nylon-fastener straps, as well as a single nylon-fastener strap that is designed to wrap around the patient’s perineum for extra stability. The patient or an assistant secures the unit around the surgical-wound site so that it holds the dressing in place.

Ergonomic, versatile and easy to use, the PERINEUM BINDER also can be used to remedy abdomen and back problems, or hold in abdominal bulges for vanity reasons.

The original design was submitted to the Fort Lauderdale office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
