Sunshine Awakenings' Turns Up The Juice For The Portland Homeless
(PRWEB) November 28, 2017 -- Help Sunshine Awakenings fulfill its plan of generative nourishment for the holiday season and #GivingTuesday through their Superfeed Portland program. The goal is to prepare and provide 1,000 gallons of fresh pressed juice to the homeless throughout the month of December and they need your support. Visit http://www.sunshineawakenings.org/superfeed to make a contribution.
Ever since 2011 when Sunshine Awakenings' founder Ivan Scharbrough was introduced face to face with the grim realities of homelessness through his work with homeless advocacy and activist groups, his passion for aiding people in the process of getting off the street and re-stabilizing themselves has been in full force and a prime focus and of Sunshine Awakenings Inc.
"The homeless population in Multnomah County increased nearly 10 percent in the last two years: There are now at least 4,177 people without permanent homes on any given night in Portland, the latest survey shows." - Oregonlive.com
Our brain like the rest of our physical body rebuilds itself very frequently, so if the correct elemental building blocks are not present, brain function will be inevitably and significantly diminished. Now we begin to see the picture painted of how nutrition, homelessness, and even crime and mental illness are inseparable connected.
It is impossible to equal the levels of nutrients the body absorbs when drinking fresh juice by eating the same fruits or vegetables. You simply can not eat enough of the foods fast enough to match the benefits of the juice.
In the open market, it can be difficult even for working class people to afford fresh juice at $5 to $9 dollars a glass - much less the homeless. Meanwhile millions of pounds of food goes to waste every year while some don't have enough food to eat. Scarcity is an illusion and the bottom line truly is that we ALL deserve to eat healthy foods as mother Earth provides in abundance, regardless of our status, income, race, gender, or even species.
This is where organizations like Sunshine Awakenings and the Superfeed Portland program come in. Juicing for the homeless is a pioneering and innovative approach that had yet to be implemented to our knowledge anywhere in the inner city food sharing world... until now.
We also cheerfully welcome all donations of warm clothing and other foods for the coming winter months to be handed out along with the juice. Contact us via phone or email to schedule a drop off time or possibly a pick up for large amounts of items within the Portland metro area.
Our focus is much in line with 'only light can drive out darkness and only love can drive out hatred', a paraphrased MLK Jr. quote. The ultimate goal of Sunshine Awakenings as indicated in the mission statement (http://www.sunshineawakenings.org/about-us) is to help bring about the quantum shift in the collective consciousness where everyone collectively wakes up to a more loving, caring and unified state of being.
