Hospitals Use Access E-Signatures to Improve Patient Satisfaction, Create Fully Paperless Registration and Bedside Consent Processes and Cut Costs
SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas (PRWEB) December 01, 2017 -- Access today announced that hospitals are extending their e-Forms projects by adding the company’s e-Signatures solution to remove paper, cost and delays from patient registration and bedside consent processes. The latest version empowers users to take advantage of iPads and other mobile devices with a unique electronic forms handoff. It also centralizes management of all e-Forms in the web-based Access Passport platform, which provides secure, anytime access to only the latest versions.
Hilo Medical Center is one Access customer who has successfully upgraded to Access’s electronic signatures solution as part of their Passport project. Hilo had already removed a lot of paper, but found that there were still pockets of paper throughout the hospital. After a thorough analysis, they discovered that 98 percent of the remaining hard copies could be attributed to one consent form, which all of the 43,000 patients that annually visit Hilo emergency room (ER) – the busiest in Hawaii – need to sign.
Deploying Access’s e-Signatures solution enabled Hilo to convert this paper form into an electronic one. The results? $228,375 and over 52,000 sheets of paper saved annually, a streamlined registration process that gets patients the care they need faster and successful HIMSS Stage 7 attestation.
“Access Passport removes the paper chase we used to have with procedural consents and makes it easier for us to obtain patient and physician signatures simultaneously at the bedside, which helps with compliance,” said Kris Wilson, Chief Information Officer & CIP Project Director at Hilo Medical Center. “As the form goes straight into MEDITECH, the information is available immediately instead of us waiting for the form to go to the offsite HIM office for scanning. Rather than having hundreds of variations of paper forms, we just have one electronic one that we can customize as needed.”
