New leaders bring expertise vital to meeting increased demands for next-generation IT

The Chartis Group, a national advisory services firm dedicated to the healthcare industry, is pleased to spotlight two leaders who joined the firm’s Informatics and Technology (I&T) Practice this year.

Carol Chouinard joined the firm as a Director. Mr. Chouinard has over 30 years of global experience in IT and has spent his career helping organizations leverage technology to address their strategic imperatives. He has led multiple organizational and technological transformations and was a key partner in the development of strategies that elevate the role of IT. Mr. Chouinard is a subject-matter advisor for IT organization optimization, M&A methods and frameworks, value-based care and population health technologies, and interoperability. He has worked with national integrated delivery networks, academic medical centers and regional care delivery leaders. In addition, he has worked with health plans, public health and non-for-profit organizations, such as national and state health departments, health information exchange organizations and a variety of healthcare IT vendors, incubators and innovators. Prior to joining The Chartis Group, he held several national and global consulting leadership positions. Mr. Chouinard is an international speaker at healthcare IT conferences and a thought leader who has published papers on topics including M&A, MACRA, digital health innovation, interoperability and national IT policies.    

Dr. Tonya Edwards joined the firm as a Principal and member of the Chartis Physician Leadership Institute. She is board certified in both Family Practice and Clinical Informatics, with over 25 years of experience as a family physician, physician executive and consultant. Dr. Edwards served in dual roles as a practicing clinician and operational leader in diverse environments from private practice to large integrated delivery networks. She developed a passion for transforming clinical care to support improved quality of care and enhanced patient and provider experience. Dr. Edwards has advised organizations on clinical and IT governance, assessment and identification of high-value optimization opportunities, systemization and reduction of clinical variation, quality and safety improvement, and realization of value from EHR implementation. Prior to joining The Chartis Group, she led the clinical performance solutions consulting practice at a national firm, helping clients advance their physician leadership and clinical informatics, clinical optimization, and population health and analytics initiatives. Prior to this, she served as Medical Director of Informatics at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System. Dr. Edwards is a national speaker and thought leader on topics including clinical performance improvement, population health technology needs, change management and physician engagement. She has published numerous papers and has been frequently cited in industry media.
