Inventors from Camas, Calif., have developed the patent-pending MED SAFE, a device that helps ensure proper dosing and prevents theft or abuse of prescription medications.

"We developed our invention because we have witnessed close family and friends struggle with ongoing prescription drug addictions. Our device will help monitor prescribed medication," said the inventors.

The MED SAFE prevents individuals from taking medication at a rate faster than prescribed. Ultimately, this will help prevent overdoses. The device only allows access to the appropriate individual. If an unauthorized individual tries to gain access or tampers with the device, responsible parties will be alerted.

The original design was submitted to the Portland office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers.
