After its formation in 2015, Justin Elenburg’s Chapo Racing Team has been learning the ropes in the ultra-competitive world of UTV racing. Elenburg’s entrepreneurial drive is reflected in the team’s approach; they mean business. It didn’t take long to get noticed, as their LSR equipped Can-Am UTV is a real stand-out. Always meticulously prepared, the bright orange and turquoise colors are gorgeous, and the striking graphics add to the appeal. Their appearance is top-notch and their consistency is excellent for a new team. No matter how tough the task, they find a way to accomplish their goal.
They made a great first impression with Can-Am when they lost an engine at the Best in the Desert series, Parker Blue Water Challenge race in 2016. The relentless pounding in the deep sand at Parker caused the fan relay to become unplugged. By the time they discovered the issue, the extreme heat had taken a toll on the engine’s head gasket. Instead of packing it in, they searched for a replacement engine. Fellow Can-Am racers, Murray Brothers Racing, had a spare engine, but it was over 200 miles away in a crew member's garage. Well-versed in the application of today’s technology, Justin Elenburg made a call to Uber, and had the driver pick up the engine, and take it to a rendezvous spot where the team could collect it. The crew pulled an all-nighter, with help from the Murrays, and finished their heat race the next day.
Chapo Racing's determination was rewarded again at the 50th anniversary of the SCORE Baja 1000. Every competitor in the race had similar goals; just get to the finish. 1,134 miles of the toughest terrain on the Baja Peninsula stood in their way. Chapo Racing didn’t just make it to the finish, they beat every other car but one to the checkered flag in La Paz. They pushed their Can-Am Maverick X3 to the limit for 29 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds. The team’s impressive results established their reputation as relentless competitors, and earned them factory Can-Am sponsorship in 2018.
