PITTSBURGH (PRWEB) December 06, 2017 -- Pressure ulcers, more commonly known as bed sores, are caused by a patient remaining in one position for a long period of time or by repeated friction to the area in question. These sores tend to be moist and painful, and are common in patients with extensive injuries, a chronic illness or those in advanced age.
An inventor from Pomona, Calif., has invented the patent-pending WOUND TUNNEL, a system for prevention and treatment of pressure sores in patients who are bedridden. "My wife had a chronic bedsore that I felt would benefit from such a device," said the inventor. "I created a prototype and tested it, and her stage 3 pressure ulcer is now fully scabbed over." WOUND TUNNEL helps to prevent moisture from sweat and urine from irritating the skin and causing skin breakdown by creating airflow that keeps the skin healthy and dry, as well as dry out serosenguinous wounds.
This invention improves comfort for bedridden patients that suffer from bed sores, as well as reduces healing time for bed sores by promoting healing with constant airflow to the affected area. It is portable and easy to use, and can be employed by both medical facilities but also by caregivers of patients that remain in their home.
