Modern Transportation selected for HDT’s 2017 Top Green Fleets
(PRWEB) December 07, 2017 -- Modern Transportation is proud to announce that they have been selected by Heavy Duty Trucking Magazine as one of the 2017 Top Green Fleets! Continually on the forefront of alternate fuel testing, aerodynamic equipment design, and economical engine configuration, Modern is pleased to have been officially recognized and rewarded by HDT for the first time.
“Although our commitment to the environment has never been about awards, we are extremely pleased to have been selected for this coveted distinction”, shared Patrick Cozzens, President of Modern. “Having been recognized with the likes of Waste Management, UPS, and our innovative friends at Nussbaum, we view this award as a testament to our environmental commitment.”
Conducting an annual selection process that began in 2012, HDT Magazine settles on their Top Green Fleet companies by incorporating a myriad of criteria. According to HDT Editor-in-Chief, Deborah
Lockridge, “We honor a variety of ‘green’ efforts, from high-mpg diesel-powered vehicles to alternative fueling to green facilities and recycling. And, we pay special attention to what fleets have done in the past year.”
Modern has tested alternate fuels for the past five years and has experimented extensively with engine configurations, torque adjustments, and tires to improve efficiency. “We’ve also collaborated with a
trailer manufacturer to design aerodynamic enhancements”, noted Bob Smith, Sr. Director of Equipment & Maintenance at Modern. “There are so many little factors that, when simultaneously addressed, can add up to significant improvements for the environment”, shared Smith.
With an historical focus on serving Fortune 1000 manufacturers, Modern recognizes the delicate balance between pursuing innovative ways to provide best-in-class service, while maintaining standards that promote environmental stewardship. “Looking to the future”, notes Cozzens, “we are excited to continue exploring other cutting-edge technologies, including the dawning of electric vehicles in the bulk transportation space.”
Headquartered in suburban Pittsburgh, Modern Transportation serves the bulk raw material and chemical logistics needs of numerous clients in a multitude of manufacturing industries. Currently, Modern provides safe and reliable service from twenty-three strategically-located terminal locations throughout the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, and the South.
