No means to control internet access, protect against malicious and phishing sites, block botnets, give alerts when security of user devices is compromised. If the database contains cyber security-related categories which are constantly appended with emerging malware, then the filtering system can provide a layer of security – without users busying themselves with compiling lists of dangerous sites to block.
Setting up router security controls is a task for a sysadmin or a tech savvy user, not an ordinary one who has no idea what a MAC address is. The simpler the router security controls setup, the better – more people will deploy them to protect their Wi-Fi network users and monitor traffic usage.
Security market players, that already see the paradigm shift, are entering the Wi-Fi market with their secure devices offering end users most of the features mentioned above. Symantec and Bitdefender are already there with their smart Wi-Fi routers.
