Mediware® Brings Technological Insights to National Association of Specialty Pharmacy’s Clinical Outcomes Committee
LENEXA, Kan. (PRWEB) December 19, 2017 -- Mediware Information Systems, Inc., announces that its pharmacy software product managers Kimberly Commito and Darren Young will serve on the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP) clinical outcomes committee for 2018. Commito and Young bring with them years of experience and valuable perspectives on technology’s vital role in helping specialty pharmacies meet the challenges of increased clinical outcomes and data reporting requirements.
“We are honored to be part of these important discussions that will shape our industry’s future,” said Commito, director of product management for Mediware’s Home Care Solutions division. “We have seen firsthand how technology can ease burdens for specialty pharmacies, optimize precious time and resources and keep pharmacies compliant with payers, manufacturers, and accreditation organizations.”
The NASP clinical outcomes committee comprises a diverse group of pharmacy stakeholders representing providers, payers, manufacturers, accreditation, and service organizations. The committee’s mission includes establishing specialty pharmacy best practice guidelines and standards, defining key performance metrics, and promoting the professional recognition and value of specialty pharmacy. Mediware’s Commito and Young will serve as key technology members on the committee and will participate in industry discussions pertaining to topics such as dispensing accuracy and interventions, abandonment and discontinuation rates, adherence rates across therapy types, and the importance of financial assistance programs for specialty pharmacy clients.
“I am pleased that Mediware is joining the NASP Clinical Outcomes Committee,” said Grant Knowles, member of the Clinical Outcomes Committee and Vice President of Operations and Business Development at Ardon Health. “Specialty pharmacies must leverage technology to enhance expertise, operations, documentation, and care. I’m excited that NASP is bringing together a multitude of industry stakeholders and experts, like Mediware, to participate in a holistic evaluation of how Specialty Pharmacy does and can benefit patients.”

About the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP):
NASP represents over 50 healthcare industry leaders, working on behalf of retail and specialty pharmacies, drug distributors and hospital systems on legislative and regulatory efforts for the association, which has 250 member pharmacies. To spotlight the increasingly negative consequences of DIR fees, NASP launched StopDIRfees.com with information and testimonials on how big PBMs impose DIR fees to rig the Medicare system. The site also features an online petition and contact information for constituents to call or write elected officials, urging them to stop DIR fees. NASP was founded in 2012 and is the only national trade association that represents specialty pharmacy, serving as the leading educational resource and national advocate for specialty pharmacy healthcare professionals and patients alike. In addition to providing medications to severely ill patients, specialty pharmacy also features support programs and services to ensure patients maximize the benefit from their medication, therapies and services, working to ease the treatment burden for patients, families and caregivers as they work to manage these tough conditions.
