“My Favorite Place To Be”: a story that explains death to young children struggling with the loss of a loved one. “My Favorite Place To Be” is the creation of published author, Kathleen Waters.
“My goal for this book is to help other children better understand and cope with losing a loved one. It's always been important to me that my kids know that when someone we love dies, it's not the last time we will ever see them. They take comfort in knowing that we will all be together someday in heaven, everyone's favorite place to be.” --Kathleen Waters
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Kathleen Waters’ new book is a story for young children struggling to cope with the death of a loved one.
Ten years ago, author Kathleen Waters’ brother-in-law was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma then he passed away. He was a first-grade teacher and the person their kids looked up to the most. It was hard for them to understand how someone so healthy, vibrant, and full of life could get so sick so fast. As their entire family watched his health decline and his bubbly personality dwindle away, the oldest child became angry. It had only been a year since he had lost his grandma.
The youngest child began to ask questions. Kathleen told her children that the heart was like a person who was trying to keep their uncle alive. Finally, God speaks to the heart and tells it to let him go. God would take him home to heaven and make him well again. This explanation was easier for them to grasp than the actual story. It also became the basis for “My Favorite Place to Be.”
