Rockbrook Camp for Girls (web site), traditional sleepaway summer camp founded in 1921, hired Wendy Manner as its full-time Staff Director. She will be recruiting cabin counselors and activity instructors, leading all aspects of employee training, guiding staff wellness programs, and assisting families as they register for camp sessions.
“We are so fortunate to have Wendy join our team. She has done extensive work with young people in many different settings, from camp to counseling to foster parenting, not to mention the amazing job she is doing as a mother to her own two children. Rockbrook will really benefit from her great combination of fun and professionalism,” said Sarah Carter, who owns and operates Rockbrook with her husband Jeff Carter.
“Going to camp as a kid was an exciting chance to practice independence and develop a strong sense of identity. Working at camp as a teenager and college student helped shape my future career ideals and emphasized the importance of relationships in my life. Joining the Rockbrook staff is a beautiful connection of my own camp days and other life experiences in a setting centered on developing strong leaders, providing adventurous experiences, and emphasizing positive relationships,” said Manner.
Founded in 1921, Rockbrook (web site) is a traditional summer camp for girls with a program of horseback riding, sports, outdoor adventure, arts and crafts. The camp facility includes 220-acres of private forest, historic stone lodges, cabins, and equestrian fields.
A graduate of Appalachian State University, Manner has worked with youth and families through residential programs, parenting classes and support groups, in-home therapeutic treatment, and foster care.
