Temprano Techvestors of Newton, NC challenges local community to raise funds for K-64 Economic Development and Education Initiative

The K-64 (Kindergarten to age 64) plan is an educational and economic development initiative to prepare all students to be college and career ready in a global economy, while supporting the local workforce and economic growth. The K-64 focus is on six key objectives: 1-to-world technology, character and soft skills development, tech-savvy educators, work-based learning, employer engagement and career adaptability.

Temprano, a firm operating in software sales and distribution and led by local entrepreneur Luke Walling, donated $10,000 to Catawba County’s K64 initiative and is challenging others to chip in, too!

“We’re challenging the community to match us,” Walling said. “We want area businesses and residents to keep the ball rolling, and we will match them—up to another $10,000 for all donations made by December 31st, 2017. Who will accept our challenge?”

Temprano Techvestors, a high-tech company operating in software sales and distribution and led by Catawba County entrepreneur Luke Walling, has donated $10,000 to Catawba County’s K-64 initiative and is urging others to chip in, too, with a challenge.

“We’re challenging the community to match us,” Walling said. “We want area businesses and residents to keep the ball rolling, and we will match them—up to another $10,000 for all donations made by December 31st, 2017. Who will accept our challenge?”

Temprano’s motives for donating are simple. “We don’t just want to ensure a future for businesses and families in this region, but we desire a future where we grow and thrive through innovation and invention,” Walling remarked. “To do this, our educators must be supported to inspire our children at an early age. K-64 is the first vehicle in this county to have the potential to make an impact in this area.”

So the call is clear—who else will step up? Temprano believes that by providing resources to enable access to technology, students and educators can become real leaders. Mark Story, K-64 CEO, agrees.

“Technology facilitates a shift in the way kids learn, allowing our educators to become facilitators and truly teach versus old-style lecturing,” Story said. “This concept of blended learning empowers children to learn at the pace they are comfortable with and capable of, and frees up teachers to personalize learning and support,” he continued. “And without donations like Temprano’s, we rely solely on government funding, which just isn’t enough.”

As a member of the K-64 Technology committee, Walling agrees with Story’s approach. “We’re supporting the execution of this vision, and as community members we are pitching in to help make sure it is financially possible to get it done and sustain it. Will you, too?”
