Program Manager for Reston Home Remodeling Firm, Synergy Design & Construction, named GRACE’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year
RESTON, Va. (PRWEB) December 13, 2017 -- Nicola Shelley was recently honored as Volunteer of the Year at the annual Greater Reston Arts Center Board Chair Dinner on Friday, November 3rd at Tavern 64 in Reston. The dinner was attended by GRACE board members, supporters at the $5,000+ level and other community members. In its second year, GRACE's Volunteer of the Year award recognizes a volunteer who commits an extraordinary amount of personal time and resources in support of programming at the Greater Reston Arts Center.
"The GRACE Art program holds a special place in my heart” said Nicola Shelley, “ At a time when many school arts programs have been cut, it is especially important to bring art history into the classroom and make art accessible to all children. GRACE Art allows elementary school children to make connections to the world around them as well as allowing for teachable moments regarding diversity, perseverance and uniqueness.
GRACE Art is the signature art education program of the Greater Reston Arts Center. Established in 1976 to supplement and support students’ art experience in the schools, today the program serves over 20,000 students in 40 public and private elementary schools in the region.
As 2017 Finalists for the Best of Reston Community Service Award Synergy Design & Construction understands the impact their efforts can have on others. They encourage all of their employees to get involved in causes that matter to them, and Nicola Shelley has been a leader in championing those efforts.
“We are very proud of Nicola’s tireless dedication to making a difference for others.” said Mina Fies, CEO of Synergy Design & Construction. “The impact of her efforts go far beyond the reaches of GRACE and echo throughout the Greater Reston community as a whole.”
