Quality Uptime Presents The ‘Most Beautiful Data Center’ Award at 2017 DCD Awards Gala
BETHEL, Conn. (PRWEB) December 20, 2017 -- Quality Uptime Services, a leading provider of UPS and battery preventive maintenance services, announced today that the Barcelona Supercomputing Center is the winner of the ‘World’s Most Beautiful Data Center’ award. The first-of-its-kind award was presented last week by Quality Uptime Services President John Raio at the 2017 Datacenter Dynamics Awards Gala in London, England.
“We were honored to present the first ‘World’s Most Beautiful Data Center’ award, and pleased that the MareNostrum Barcelona Supercomputing Center was the winner,” said John Raio, President at Quality Uptime Services.
MareNostrum is the name of the main supercomputer in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). It is the most powerful supercomputer in Spain, and is housed in an unconventional setting: the deconsecrated Torre Girona Chapel in Barcelona, Spain. The chapel was originally constructed in the 1800’s and was in use until 1960.
The data center itself is encased in glass and fitted into the church’s nave, which is overlooked by the building’s original arched gallery and stone clerestory structure. The ceiling is painted a bright crimson red.
