Richard C. Salmen, CFP®, Assumes New Kansas-City Based Role: Salmen Brings National Leadership And Unique Career Experience To Financial Planning
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (PRWEB) January 11, 2018 -- Richard C. Salmen, CFP®, CFA, EA can call many seats home: The pilot’s seat; as an FAA air traffic controller; on his Harley; in the role of Army Captain; and leadership in the financial planning community. Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, he has taken another role—spearheading the expanded financial planning services at the Lenexa, Kan., office of Family Investment Center.
Salmen is a nationally-known financial planning professional, having served in positions including past national President of the Financial Planning Association and now the 2018 Chair of Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards’ (CFP Board) Board of Directors. In the financial planning profession, CFP® certification represents the highest standard in ethical and competent financial planning. Salmen works with fellow Board members to lead and guide CFP Board in benefitting the public by fostering professional standards in personal financial planning through its setting and enforcement of the education, examination, experience, ethics and other requirements for CFP® certification.
In 2018, he is applying this insight to his new role as President at Family Investment Center, a fee-only financial planning and investment firm serving clients throughout the nation. Family Investment Center team members are quoted by sources including the Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report and the Kansas City Star for a slightly unconventional, jargon-free approach to investing.
“Richard’s credentials and experience are extensive,” said Dan Danford, Founder/CEO of Family Investment Center. “He will provide financial planning services that aren’t currently part of our offerings, except on an as-needed basis. This significantly broadens our scope to help solve client challenges at all levels.”
Salmen comes to Family Investment Center from a top leadership position at BOK Financial Corp/GTrust, where he spent 16 years overseeing the firm’s financial planning practice.
“We see our role as financial planners like a coaching role. We guide people to use their money more effectively in their lives. Money can be complicated, and it’s literally our role to make money make sense. This is the core of who we are and what we do,” said Salmen.
Through his leadership at BOK Financial Corp/GTrust, Salmen assisted hundreds of individuals and families across the United States in a quest to “make money make sense.” In this role, he provided holistic, fiduciary advice just as Danford and his current Family Investment Center team have for two decades. Reflecting a constant commitment to high standards and education in the profession, Salmen served as co-chair for two international financial planners’ tours – one to China and one to India. He holds many industry credentials, including CFP®, CFA and EA.
Danford said Salmen will help clients engage in a systematic and structured delivery of the financial planning process. Areas of financial planning service include tax preparation and tax planning; estate planning; investment management; business planning; insurance planning and risk management; cash flow management; and goal setting.
Services will be provided on a fee-only (non-commission) basis. As a fiduciary, it is the responsibility of Family Investment Center to act in clients’ best interests, rather than be motivated by any benefits the advisor could receive.
“This work to help people with their money in a fee-only environment is part of a standard of excellence that resonates deeply with me,” Salmen said. “In reality, what we do is help people understand their money – and themselves – better, and this impacts their lives for years to come.”
“We are looking forward to leveraging our newly expanded talents and strengths of our team to carry out our business motto of ‘Planning for some serious freedom,’” said Danford. “When it comes right down to it, money is freedom. And freedom is fun.”
