SAN JOSE, Calif. (PRWEB) January 02, 2018 -- Cogswell College’s Board of Trustees announced today that Dr. Brian K. Shepard has been appointed as President and Chief Academic Officer (CAO). He will assume his new role at Cogswell College on January 16, 2018.
“Brian brings a proven track record in higher education innovation that will keep the college and its students on our distinctive course,” said Charles Cook, Chairman of the Board of Cogswell College. “Of all the candidates, Dr. Shepard was deemed the best fit for Cogswell. His sense of mission, background in technological skills and creative arts research, and experience in curricular design allow him to understand the complexity of higher education in the 21st century.”
Dr. Shepard is an experienced educator. Most recently he served as the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs and a Professor of Audio Design Practice in the University of Southern California’s Iovine and Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation. Prior to that he held teaching and administrative positions in the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, the Texas Christian University School of Music, the University of Oklahoma School of Music and Oklahoma Christian University.
“I’m excited to be part of this unique learning environment,” Dr. Shepard said. “The way Cogswell combines a creative, real-world, collegiate education with outstanding student support is unparalleled in post-secondary education.”
For more than twenty years, Dr. Shepard’s research focused on the technological skills and tools necessary to prepare students for careers in music and the creative arts. In 1999, he conducted the very first demonstration of a private music lesson using uncompressed audio and video over Internet2. For his research in this area, he has twice been honored by Internet2 with their IDEA Award. In 2009, he released ECHODamp, the only audio mixing and echo-control software application specifically designed for musical videoconferences. His book Refining Sound: A Practical Guide to Synthesis and Synthesizers is published by Oxford University Press.
Shepard earned his Bachelor of Music in Percussion from the University of Kansas, his Master of Music in Instrumental Conducting from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Composition from the University of Oklahoma.
