VA Maryland Health Care System Names New Associate Director for Finance

Jonathan R. Eckman has been named Associate Director for Finance for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System. Prior to this position, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Network Director for the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), as well as the Acting Deputy Network Director for VISN 5.

Jonathan R. Eckman has been named Associate Director for Finance for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System. Prior to this position, he served as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Network Director for the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5), as well as the Acting Deputy Network Director for VISN 5.

As the Associate Director for Finance, Eckman is responsible for the VA Maryland Health Care System's annual budget of approximately $595 million. Additionally, he oversees the day-to-day operations of Acquisition & Materiel Management, Finance and Accounting, Human Resources Management, Medical Administration, and Veterans Canteen Services, as well as the Decision Support, Medical Cost Collection Fund, Privacy, and Workman's Compensation Offices for the health care system. Eckman is also the site manager for the Perry Point VA Medical Center.

Prior to his appointment as the Executive Assistant to the Deputy Network Director for VISN 5, Eckman served as the Associate Medical Center Director at the Coatesville VA Medical Center in Coatesville, Pennsylvania. From November 2013 through June 2014, he served as the Acting Medical Center Director at the medical center. Mr. Eckman began his VA career in 2008 as a Project Engineer at the Perry Point VA Medical Center. In 2010, he was promoted to the Project Section Supervisor, followed by the appointment to the Executive Assistant to the Associate Director for Finance for the VA Maryland Health Care System.

Eckman earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa., and a Master of Engineering in Project Management from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. He is a Veteran and served as an Army Engineer from 2000 until 2004. Mr. Eckman is a Registered Professional Engineer with the State of Maryland. Mr. Eckman is married with two sons and resides in Bel Air, Maryland.
