For the Weinberg Commons to receive a coveted Passive Project Award in part from our product, is doubly satisfying

To help reduce energy costs and provide cozy apartments for its residents, the Henry and Jeanette Weinberg Commons affordable housing complex in Washington, D.C., includes H-Shield polyiso roof insulation from Hunter Panels. Built to the rigorous Passive House design principles, the Weinberg Commons reduces energy consumption by more than 50% compared to similar typical code-compliant buildings. In recognition of the complex’s exemplary design, the Weinberg Commons won the Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) Passive Projects 2017 Award in the Affordable Housing Category.

“We were happy to donate nearly 10,000 square feet of Hunter H-Shield roof insulation for such a worthwhile housing project,” said Jim Whitton, Hunter Panels vice president of sales and marketing. “For the Weinberg Commons to receive a coveted Passive Project Award in part from our product, is doubly satisfying.”

The Weinberg Commons used 2-inch thick Hunter H-Shield, which is a rigid roof insulation panel composed of a closed cell polyisocyanurate foam core manufactured on-line to fiber reinforced facers on each side. Hunter H-Shield is approved for direct application to steel roof decks and is for use under all major roof covering systems, including BUR, modified and single-ply.
