Five New Year Resolutions That Will Improve Life for the Family Dog
Wilton CT (PRWEB) December 28, 2017 -- The New Year’s arrival prompts many people to commit to self-improvement: losing weight, increasing exercise and eating healthier. This year, why not make a resolution or two to improve the health and wellbeing of the family’s canine companion?
“Our dogs depend upon us to make their lives healthy, safe and happy,” says Jennifer Hill, President and CEO of Canine Company. “They can’t improve diet or get more exercise on their own. Now is a good time to take stock of your pets’ needs, and resolve to make their lives better.”
She suggests five resolutions to help their furry family members thrive in 2018:
1. Schedule a health check. It’s important that dogs have an annual screening, not just for routine vaccinations, but also to catch health problems early. Older dogs should see their vet twice a year.
2. Make grooming a routine. Skin and coat condition are important to a pet’s health and wellbeing. “Brushing is important, but not enough. A shampoo with conditioning, nail trim and ear cleaning are needed every four to six weeks, depending upon coat and lifestyle. If the task is too big to do at home, schedule regular appointments with a professional groomer.”
3. Monitor diet and exercise. Dogs need regular exercise and quality nutrition to maintain good health year round. Schedule playtimes, walks or romps every day to keep pets moving. Consult your vet about the best food for your pet’s age and activity level.
4. Keep them safe. More than six million pets are hit and killed by cars each year because they wander into the road. Always walk the family dog on a leash, and install electronic fencing like an Invisible Fence® brand system to keep pets safely at home.
5. Devote time to training. Training is a life-long necessity for dogs --whether to reinforce basic skills or teach a new trick. As important as managing behavior, training provides mental stimulation and enhances dogs’ bond with their human companions.
“Any pet parent can adopt one or two of these resolutions to make life better for the family dog in the year ahead,” says Hill. “Our team of pet care professionals at Canine Company is here to help.”
