Inaugural Recipient of the ICSC Foundation Lonnie G Peterson Scholarship in Architecture Announced
ORLANDO, Fla. (PRWEB) December 29, 2017 -- The inaugural recipient of the The ICSC Foundation Lonnie G. Peterson Scholarship in Architecture was University of Florida student Adriana Lovera. Ms. Lovera is in her final semester at the University of Florida’s CityLab Orlando campus to complete her Masters in Architecture. She received her Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Florida and is a member of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). Applicants for the scholarship were asked to submit an essay about their interest in retail architecture. An excerpt from her winning essay said,
“Retail architecture focuses not only in creating a place to sell a product, its priority is to sell an experience, or a feeling that helps the customer associate the emotions with the place and the brand. This mindset comes from both the interior of the building as well as the exterior no matter how big or small the construction is. The facades of the building need to evoke a sensation that will encourage and welcome the customer to walk in the store. Once inside, it is important that the customer does not feel overwhelmed or confused, and that the design of the space allows for the store to engage the customer and sell itself without the immediate need of the staff.”
Lonnie Peterson, Co-Founder of Cuhaci & Peterson, Jed Downs, President Emeritus of Cuhaci & Peterson, Lauri Novick, President of the ICSC Foundation and Frank Bosworth, Program Director of CityLab-Orlando all reviewed the essays submitted by students who met the credit and GPA requirements. All identifying information was redacted and they rated each essay individually. After the results were tallied, the announcement was made by Jed Downs at the UF CityLab-Orlando holiday reception on December 21, 2017. Lonnie Peterson and C&P CEO Greg Simpson were also in attendance for the announcement.
Peterson commented, “When I was a student, I was very fortunate to receive a couple of small scholarships. That combined with a lot of hard work enabled me to graduate essentially debt free. I didn't realize until later just what a big boost it was to have a clean financial start on my professional life. Now, it is such a great honor that Jed, C&P and ICSC have put us all in a position to give back in a similar way. This is not a huge scholarship, but hopefully it helps someone get off to a great start on a rewarding career.”
A $5,000 scholarship was awarded to Ms. Lovera to go toward the costs of her Masters in Architecture. The scholarship will be given annually to a student in their final semester at UF’s CityLab for the next 11 years.
