Cigna Receives Elite Corporate Health Champion Designation by the American Diabetes Association
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 01, 2017 -- The American Diabetes Association announced that Cigna achieved the Elite Corporate Health Champion designation. The award was presented on Wednesday Feb. 15, 2017 during a presentation at the company’s office located in Glendale. The Association’s Greater Los Angeles Area Associate Director of Development Tracey Hecht, along with D-Force for Life’s Rufus Dorsey, joined Cigna’s Vice President of Account Management Sonia Ledesma, and Sarah Mahoney and Tania Muinos of sales and account management to present a certificate of achievement and recognition.
The Health Champion Designation is part of the Wellness Lives Here initiative, which is designed to inspire and fuel our nation’s healthful habits at work and beyond. This designation recognizes companies and organizations that inspire and encourage organizational well-being as part of the Association’s Wellness Lives HereSM initiative.
To qualify for the Health Champion designation, a company or organization must meet the healthy living criteria in three areas:
1. Nutrition and Weight Management: Five of the twelve criteria options, such as offering healthy food choices, promoting nutritional information and providing healthy vending options.
2. Physical Activity: Four of the nine criteria options; participating in the physical activity events of the Association, facilitating walking or biking to work, encouraging taking the stairs, etc.
3. Organizational Well-Being: Having an organizational smoke-free policy and three more of the nine criteria options, such as having a designated wellness program coordinator, a wellness committee, or a contracted wellness company available to staff/members, integrating health topics/information into internal communications, etc.
The health and wellness initiatives of Cigna have met the criteria of a Corporate Wellness Champion by offering adjustable work spaces with standing desks, health and wellness days and activities, an in-house wellness team, and much more. Cigna’s sponsorship and participation in the Association’s Step Out Walk to Stop Diabetes was a key factor in achieving the “Elite” Corporate Health Champion status. As a sponsor of the event, Cigna has also participated in some of the Los Angeles Association’s initiatives, programs, and offered the Association’s wellness presentations to their employees, vendors and clients.
