The National Cyber League Works to Tackle the Expected 1.8 Million Cybersecurity Talent Shortage
Chevy Chase, Maryland (PRWEB) March 02, 2017 -- When faced with an anticipated 1.8 million person cybersecurity shortage by 2022, the National Cyber League (NCL) has responded by closing the disparity of what is taught and what the industry needs with its 6th NCL Season. Registration is now open.
NCL provides a virtual Gymnasium for students and professionals to develop their cybersecurity knowledge and skills and the NCL Stadium, where these same participants validate that knowledge and skills through individual and team play. Employers looking for qualified cybersecurity talent need only examine the NCL Scouting Reports - assessments on a participant’s strengths and weaknesses, across a range of competencies - to find the most skilled and appropriate match for their organization. New NCL players get caught up in the excitement of beating their scores from game to game, while seasoned participants aim to keep their skills sharp. All participants, however, will make big gains.
"My first year, I cried after the Preseason competition because I thought I wasn’t smart enough to be in this. I literally couldn’t even figure out all of the open source Intel material," said Kaitlyn, an NCL participant. “In my most recent experience [fall 2016], I finished with 1,800 points in Preseason. If that doesn’t show an insane amount of growth, then I don’t know what does. Working through these competitions has been monumental in my cybersecurity education and has made all of my classes easier and more applicable. I’ve learned so much. There are simply not words to express how much.”
The NCL also provides free materials including instructor syllabi mapped to NCL events, sample game challenges, recommended textbooks, and examples of how to integrate the NCL curriculum into a classroom setting.
NCL events occur year-round. For more information, visit nationalcyberleague.org or email info(at)nationalcyberleague(dot)org.
