Blind Judo Foundation Signs UNESCO Marseille Declaration with Commitment of Inclusion and Diversity Recognizing Opportunities for Engagement of People With Disabilities
Redmond, WA (PRWEB) July 05, 2017 -- The program entitled UFIT (Universal Fitness Innovation and Transformation) was launched in Palais Du Pharo, Marseille, France in October 2015 in association with IHRSA (International Health, Racquet, Sport, Association) 15th Annual European Congress.
The UNESCO Chair and Project Manager, Catherine Carty of Ireland met with Ron C. Peck, Co-Founder of the Foundation on a recent trip to the USA while attending the IHRSA Annual Congress in Los Angeles. It was prearranged to meet and learn more about her Project and the Foundation of inclusion especially among those with disabilities.
The Marseille Declaration represents a global social change movement supported by UNESCO and promoted by the UNESCO Chair and its signatories.
The Marseille Declaration is a mechanism to encourage diverse players who shape the sector, to actively advocate and act to transform the sector globally into an advanced inclusive sector that actively, willingly and positively seeks to increase opportunities for quality participation of people with disabilities.
The Blind Judo Foundation under the legendary and iconic Co-Founder Coach Willy Cahill, of Cahill’s Judo Academy has a long and illustrious history of producing national and international champions in the sport of Judo.
Cahill was the 2000 US Paralympic Judo Team Coach leading his blind athletes (Judoka) in winning two Gold Medals, a Silver Medal and a Bronze Medal at the Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia. With 67 years of Judo experience, Cahill continues to develop not only sighted athletes but those who are blind and visually impaired.
The Foundation believes in the power of Judo, the second largest sport in the world in honing and forming the lives of those with disabilities making it an inclusive sport to be enjoyed and practiced around the world. And the Foundation want to be the societal conduit through which Judo can foster greater societal inclusion of people with disabilities and other marginalized groups.
The Marseille Declaration was signed by the UNESCO Chair and Project Manager, Catherine Carty and Ron C. Peck, Co-Founder of the Blind Judo Foundation.
