Hover Energy, LLC (“Hover” or the “Company”) announced today that Dr. William “Bill” Erdman will serve as Executive Vice President – Electrical Engineering of the Company. Dr. Erdman retired as the Head of the Renewables Department at DNV GL, a global quality assurance company that certifies wind turbines.

He was previously engaged by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory to perform wind turbine drivetrain development. In the late 1990s, Dr. Erdman founded Trace Technologies Corporation, the primary supplier of utility-scale, variable speed wind turbine converters and control systems to Zond Energy, Tacke Wind, and Enron Wind (GE Wind Energy). Prior to that, he served as Vice President at Kenetech Windpower, where he was responsible for power conversion technology, intellectual property, and product development on the Kenetech 33 M-VS variable speed wind turbine, the first commercial variable speed turbine in the U.S.

Dr. Erdman is the named inventor on more than 75 patents related to wind energy including U.S. Patent 5,083,039, which dominated the U.S. wind energy industry from 1995 until its expiration in 2011. For his work in power electronic conversion, he was awarded the American Wind Energy Association’s Outstanding Technical Contribution Award.

Albert McLelland, Chief Executive Officer of Hover, commented, “Bill is a wind industry veteran who adds critical expertise to our team as we prepare for our initial rooftop installations. His background in grid interconnect issues, testing, and certifying wind turbines will enhance our final design process for manufacturing and will be imperative as we establish a load balancing approach for customer installations.”
