International Watermedia Exhibition in Houston Attracts Artists from Around the World
HOUSTON (PRWEB) January 09, 2018 -- Tucked inside the historic Museum District in Houston, the Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) has been busy attracting watermedia artists from all over the world to participate in its annual International Watermedia Exhibition (IWE).
For over forty years, this month-long event has been a well-respected staple in the art community and a highly anticipated art show attended by art collectors, enthusiasts and artists, hailing from all over the world. Previous jurors have claimed the collection as, “spectacular,” receiving artwork from places as far away as Singapore, and as small as Schulenburg, Texas.
The 41st International Watermedia Exhibition will highlight the artistic excellence of its global participants from March 4 – April 5, 2018 at the WAS-H Gallery inside its Jack Bowen Building, and winners will be awarded over $7,000 in prizes.
This year’s highly sought-after artist and instructor, Iain Stewart, will serve as the honorary juror for the event and lead a workshop at WAS-H. Stewart is an award-winning watercolor artist/illustrator, and a signature member of both the American and National Watercolor Societies. He is also an architectural illustrator with an international clientele.
“We have reached out to artists globally, including England, Italy, and Turkey, to encourage participation in the show and represent artwork from other countries,” said Heather Jones Taylor, Co-Director of the International Watermedia Exhibition.
Last year’s entries included artists from across the United States, the Americas, Europe and Asia. Ken Call from Illinois was awarded first place and other honorees included Dashuai Sun from New York and Mark McDermott from Alaska.
“It’s exciting to discover so many talented artists from all over the world,” said Louise Bateman, President of the Watercolor Art Society–Houston. “We are pleased to provide a venue for artists from the United States and around the world to exhibit their work, which is why we work so hard to produce the annual International Watermedia Exhibition.”
This year’s exhibition is co-directed by E. Thomas Kraycirik and Heather Jones Taylor of the Watercolor Art Society-Houston and assisted by Haley Bowen, Director of Development. The awards and reception will be held on March 4th at 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at WAS-H, and Vikki Trammel, co-owner of Art Supply on Main and IWE sponsor, will present the first-ever Art Supply on Main Award worth $500 to one participant. The exhibit will officially open on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the VIP Art Lover’s Reception. The show will close on April 5, 2018.
The deadline for artist submissions is January 12, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. CST and accepted entries must be received at the WAS-H gallery by 3:00 p.m. CST, on March 1, 2018 to be included in the exhibition. For more information, please visit https://watercolorhouston.org/International-Exhibition.
