London Beats New York City To Become Instagram’s Most Hashtagged City for the First Time
AMSTERDAM, North Holland (PRWEB) January 13, 2018 -- London is the world’s most hashtagged city on Instagram for the year 2017, according to a recently released report by Hashtag the World. Since the year 2015, this Amsterdam-based organization has been publishing such reports based on their monitoring of the world’s most popular city hashtags on Instagram. The goal of this annual study is to gain detailed insight into the consistent growth of Instagram and hashtags.
In the 2017 edition of the report, all major cities across the world have experienced a significant growth rate in terms of the number of Instagram posts. London has taken the top position with approximately sixty thousand daily posts on an average, taking over the spot from New York for the first time. As in the previous edition of the report, Paris, Dubai, and Istanbul have taken the third, fourth, and fifth positions, respectively. Tokyo and Los Angeles have become the two cities to register the highest growth rate with more than 50% growth compared to the previous year.
The popularity of Instagram has grown steadily since its inception in 2010. The platform has more than 700 million active users and is currently the second most popular social media network in the world behind Facebook. It is now considered to be the best social media platform for user engagement because of factors such as post visibility, tendency to comment, and shareability. An extremely high percentage of young travelers love to share their travel photographs on Instagram. As a result, the travel industry has started utilizing this popular visual content sharing app as one of their most influential advertising platforms.
