A Higher Level of Care, Around the Clock, for Patients Needing Addiction Detox or Co-Occurring Disorders

Scottsdale Recovery Center (SRC) proudly opened its doors to two new, well-appointed ten bed inpatient residential treatment facilities in Scottsdale this week. The additional facilities expand and enhance their core business, a leading edge Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program.

“We’re saddened by the increased rate of drug dependency in this country. The opioid epidemic isn’t going away anytime soon. This new center will be the answer to many who are out of options, until now,” says owner of Scottsdale Recovery Center, Chris Cohn.

Patients who enter the new program will experience treatment therapies in a residence setting, much like a boutique hotel. Treatments include: recovery-focused support groups and specialized wellness groups, nutritional counseling and education, and life skills training and job readiness skills.

“As far as I know, this concept is the first of its kind in Arizona,” says Cohn. "The interior colors and furniture and the feng-shui all come together for a therapeutic experience. We hired an experienced interior design firm to help share our vision.”

With long term use of alcohol, heroin and prescription painkillers, a dual diagnosis is common where addiction is compounded with a mental illness. The luxurious and upscale residential treatment center (RTC) offers private accommodations.

Program Director for SRC, David Larimer, M.Ed, CADC whole-heartedly believes that the individualized, holistic approach unique to SRC is the answer.

“We take physical, emotional, mental and spiritual focus to an entirely different level. Patients entrust their lives in their caregivers,” says Larimer. “We don’t take that lightly. During the detox treatment and recovery process, we do everything possible to ensure a patient’s safety, security and privacy minute-by-minute. All they need to work on is healing, which is how it should be.”

The facility meets the American Society of Addiction Medicine criteria for a Level 3.5 Clinically Managed High-Intensity Residential Service. This allows them to provide Medically Assisted Treatment with the use of buprenorphine for opioid detox and Naltrexone/Vivitrol for supported assistance with opioid recovery as many patients need to ween off dependency from one drug by the use of another. With associated health risks being common in the addiction detox process, around the clock structured medical supervision for severe addiction issues and chronic and/or serious mental health issues is necessary. The center is staffed with nursing personnel and behavioral health tech support every day, every hour, on site.

SRC is The Joint Commission Accredited which is the highest accreditation a drug rehab facility can attain. Clients receive a medical history assessment and physical performed by a physician, twenty-four hour medical supervision and psychiatric evaluations.

A key differentiator in SRC’s program is the blending of high-level care with the comforts of a sense of familiarity and home which Cohn takes personally. Some of these elements that set them apart include: daily catered gourmet and healthy meals, daily exercise classes, weekly yoga and meditation classes, and daily physical and recreational activities on-site.

“There’s no benefit to a patient constantly being reminded that they are sick. We’re here to push positivity, not negativity. If we want to help people learn how to live without drugs or alcohol, part of that is making them comfortable in living day in and day out without it. This starts by how you live at home. The residential inpatient center is their first home living clean and sober. It has to be a good experience that they want to continue on their own after treatment is completed,” says Cohn.

The SRC Residential Treatment Facility experience includes:

  • Medication assessment and 24-hour management (MAT)
  • Opioid detoxification
  • Group, individual and family therapy utilizing evidenced-based practices
  • Family education and support
  • Relapse prevention
  • Family-geared support services that help fortify the path to sobriety, crucial to patients that normally live with parents, children and siblings.
