Leading Beverly Hills Dentists Concerned by False Positive Online Reviews on Yelp, Facebook, Google, Including for Local Dental Colleague
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (PRWEB) January 24, 2018 -- Many are understandingly suspicious about what they read Online, but has it ever occurred to you that large numbers of those glowing reviews of doctors and other healthcare providers are actually totally false? Some bogus reviews even feature photos of unrelated reality show competitors and actors instead of actual patients.
That’s exactly what recently happened in Beverly Hills, as exposed on a local KNBC -TV broadcast (see http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Fake-Reviews-on-Yelp-Facebook-Google-447796103.html).
In the KNBC -TV segment, Beverly Hills dentist Dr. Rodney Raanan can be seen telling the KNBC I-Team he could not explain the source of dozens of fake reviews for his practice on Google and Facebook. As the news report stated, "One reviewer, identified as Janet Downer, gives Ranaan a 5-star rating on Google, but her profile picture actually belongs to Whitney Miller, winner of the first season of Fox TV's, MasterChef.”
“I know that people are already dubious about online reviews," stated dentist Matt Nejad, also of Helm Nejad Stanley, “and I don’t blame them. Consumer confidence is drastically affected by fake reviews, which is especially bad for those in need of a skilled and honest doctor, dentist or other healthcare practitioners. It’s also not good for the practitioners who have worked hard to earn their positive - and real - reviews. A successful practice is built on creditably and trust, and when you take that away, you have nothing left. We don't hire outside companies to recruit or provide reviews for this exact reason. The integrity of our practice is non-negotiable, and we, therefore, do not outsource that responsibility. Our reputation for integrity has been built through 60+ years of happy and satisfied patients."
But how can you avoid falling for this “Fake News”?
Emanuel Rosen, the co-author of "Absolute Value: What Really Influences Customers in the Age of (Nearly) Perfect Information," suggests reading multiple reviews to look for themes instead of relying too heavily on a small number of user reviews. He also recommends reading across multiple platforms to get a larger sample of reviews from different places.
There are even whole data analytics companies, such as one named Fakespot, which states that their, "patented algorithm looks for patterns to filter out reviews we think are unreliable.” They go on to state that the credibility of reviews is often, "undermined by businesses who leave fake reviews for themselves or for their competitors – or by individuals with an undisclosed bias.”
