MarTech Advisor Releases Its Annual Investscape for 2017 | Analyzes The $8.8bn Dollar Martech Investments For The Year

The research reveals the top categories, the top companies and the top venture funds that marked all the action in the martech space.

With an overall funding of close to $8.8 billion in 2017, martech investments saw a 37% decrease from $14.5 billion in 2016. While the total investment has reduced, the number of companies funded has seen a marked increase. More than 400 companies across 40 martech categories got funded this year, compared to 350+ companies across 41 martech categories in the previous year. A total of 19 Unicorns blazed into Martech in 2017.

AppLovin, a mobile marketing product company, emerged as the top funded company for 2017 with a funding amount of $841Mn. Other top funded martech companies include Unity Technologies ($400Mn), Slack ($250Mn) & Magento ($250Mn). Docker and Datarobot are the 2 martech companies that got funded twice in 2017.

Mobile Marketing, E-commerce & Sales Enablement are the top 3 funded categories that evoked VC interest this year with a combined total of $2.1Bn in investments.

Salesforce Ventures, emerged as the top investor for the second consecutive year with 15 investments across multiple categories. Accel Partners and Y Combinator ranked as the 2nd and 3rd major investor respectively. The trio were also the most recurrent investors across all 4 quarters this year.

Martech funding has picked up pace outside of US, as martech companies from China, United Kingdom, India, Canada, and new entrants Lithuania and Luxembourg saw some funding action this year.
