Spire has announced a partnership with TM Cell to distribute mobile phones to Innovation: Africa employees working in rural Africa, as well as to the people they serve. Innovation: Africa is an Israeli non-profit that brings life-changing solar and water technologies to rural African villages.
The access to phones will help Innovation: Africa employees connect with one another faster and thus, increase productivity and progress on their mission. They are currently implementing solar panels in rural areas to pump clean water, as well as provide light and refrigeration to medical clinics, schools, and orphanages.
“We are thrilled that Spire and TM Cell are helping our team work more efficiently. Having a mobile phone will provide faster lines of communication and being able to extend that gift to the rural Africans we’re serving is beyond generous,” says Innovation: Africa’s Founder and CEO, Sivan Ya’ari.
Highlighting the relationship, Mario Ego-Aguirre, Managing Director at TM Cell said, “We’re honored to be even a small part of Innovation: Africa’s hard work and can’t wait to see how these phones will change people’s lives in rural Africa.”
Innovation: Africa has helped more than 1M people who live and work in over 100 remote villages in 7 African countries, including Uganda, Senegal, and Ethopia.
Head of Technology at Spire, Charlie Hulcher, said, “At Spire, helping people in emerging markets get equal access to markets and services is our mission and we believe that blockchain technologies will create the leverage to lift economies all over the globe.”
The Spire (SPI) token will power the digital currency wallet and dApp Marketplace of UpChannel’s free, white-labeled platform, which is pre-installed on smartphones sold by TM Cell. Through this exclusive partnership, Spire currently has access to more than 1.2 million devices in 105 countries, with 26 million devices under contract for 2018.

Spire will power digital currency wallets and a curated dApp (decentralized application) Marketplace for the 3 billion people in developing nations who leapfrogged PCs, going directly to smartphones. Telecom partners pre-install free, white-labeled software on the Android smartphones they sell, creating a broad distribution strategy. The wallet will initially support Spire’s token (SPI), along with Bitcoin.
