Back in the 18th century, the thoroughbred horses were created by a cross breed between English mares and Arabian horses plus other horses. The cross breeding was to produce horses that were of high strength for long races. Although the thoroughbred horses are known for horse racing, they also participate in other racing such as show jumping and fox hunting.

There are two thoroughbred horse racing, flat and jump races. Thoroughbred horse racing can also be under certain conditions such as handicap races where the horse is tested against its handicap like being overweight or age.
