National Lutheran Communities & Services Announces Impact1890–A National Lutheran Program
ROCKVILLE, Md. (PRWEB) January 30, 2018 -- National Lutheran Communities & Services (NLCS) announces the establishment of Impact1890–A National Lutheran Program, with the sole function of managing the grants it awards to community partners. As a faith-based not-for-profit ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), it has been NLCS’ purpose to serve seniors since 1890. The establishment of Impact1890 will help extend this mission to even more older adults.
Originally, the grant program fell under NLCS’ Community Impact program. The Community Impact program was established in 2014 to enhance NLCS’ commitment to the greater community. The Community Impact program encompasses a wide variety of outreach activities throughout the National Lutheran family.
“We are honored to have a long tradition of philanthropy, one that began our ministry and still thrives today,” President & CEO, Lawrence R. Bradshaw said. “As Community Impact has grown and taken shape, it has become clear that it is time to organize these efforts in a new way. We now have an opportunity to differentiate the grant-making portion of our activity from our day-to-day community outreach that happens throughout the National Lutheran family.”
Through Impact1890, NLCS will continue to reach beyond the physical boundaries of its residential communities to meet the needs of seniors and support the work of other non-profit organizations within the Delaware-Maryland, Metropolitan Washington, D.C. and Virginia Synods of the ELCA. Impact1890 will evaluate opportunities and award grants to non-profit and faith based organizations chosen to receive funding by the Impact1890 Board of Directors.
“It is important that we truly be present in the three synods of the ELCA that we serve. Since 2014, we know that the Community Impact grant program has brought peace to so many seniors and their families,” Executive Director, Impact1890, Kathryn Baerwald said. “We fully expect that Impact1890 will continue to do so for many years to come.”
The launch of Impact1890.org is coming soon.
