Give those innovative ideas for teaching cybersecurity education the credit they deserve while having them heard throughout the nation. The National CyberWatch Center’s 2nd Annual Innovations in Cybersecurity Education awards and recognition program is set to launch.

The National CyberWatch Center works with some of the best cybersecurity education innovators in the nation. After last year’s program saw 44 submissions with five impressive models chosen as winners, National CyberWatch is looking for more inventive and creative entries. Last year’s winning entries in diverse categories (curriculum, faculty development, lab activity, local partnership, and student learning aid) were: Cyber Warrior Princess Cyberher Education for Girls; Free e-Book Framework for SCADA Cybersecurity; Network Defender-Threat Hunting Honors Project; Providing Students Hands-on Experience and Volunteerism Through Work with Nonprofits; and Carefully Combining Strategies has a Big Impact on Cybersecurity Education for the Youngest Learners.

“The National CyberWatch Center’s Innovations in Cybersecurity Education program has two important but different roles: to recognize the hard work and creativity of our individual educators in the Information Security community, and build an effective practices resource for new programs to turn to for ideas and guidance,” said Casey W. O’Brien, executive director and principal investigator of the National CyberWatch Center. “I am committed to supporting this program that celebrates success and encourages its adoption in a meaningful manner.”

Through this awards and recognition program, educators can share their best ideas, accelerate its adoption throughout the academic community, and receive the proper recognition for their work. Cybersecurity educators also are able to learn from these submissions and later use these ideas in their own classrooms.

Any cybersecurity educator can fill out a nomination form that includes: program name, people involved in the concept and roll out, reasons for success, and replication potential. All entries will be integrated in a single volume to be published and disseminated by the National CyberWatch Center. Winners will be announced at the 2018 Community College Cyber Summit, Aug. 2-4, where past winners also will be part of a panel discussion and share ideas on innovation adoption.
