Looking Toward the Future, Shriners Hospitals for Children Explores Restructuring Delivery of Pediatric Burn Care
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) January 31, 2018 -- Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a leader in pediatric burn care, research, and education is exploring restructuring delivery of pediatric burn care. As the number of acute pediatric burn injuries has decreased in the United States, due in large part to prevention efforts led by Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees, and the executive leadership team for Shriners Hospitals for Children have determined a need to reevaluate the current delivery of acute pediatric burn care throughout the system.
A recent assessment of domestic and international pediatric burn care revealed this care can be effectively delivered utilizing fewer facilities. Leadership of Shriners Hospitals for Children is considering the consolidation of acute inpatient care of its burn patients allowing for a refocus of the delivery of burn care at its other US locations and potential expansion of care to various locations around the world.
Emerging technologies and the advent of Telehealth initiatives combined with an ever changing healthcare environment are transforming Shriners Hospitals for Children’s goal to serve more children in more places. Having served children from 176 countries, Shriners Hospitals for Children is exploring improved access to care for children throughout the United States and around the globe.
Consistent with Shriners Hospitals for Children’s nearly 100-year history of providing specialized pediatric care, their mission remains reaching and treating more children in need of those healthcare services, in more convenient and accessible locations, all provided regardless of the patient or family’s ability to pay.
