In addressing immigration, it is imperative that you consider how your actions will affect America’s population size and growth. With our nation now on track to a population of 400 million by mid-century – only 32 years from now – this is a critical time.

In advance of a major push to decide the fate of illegal young people in the U.S. currently covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, NPG President Donald Mann has called on Congress to also take this opportunity to make a number of additional “nation changing” reforms to America’s broken immigration system.
In a letter sent to all U.S. Senators and Members of the House of Representatives, Mann noted that in making critical decisions on immigration, it is vital that Congress put “America’s interests ahead of special interests.” He proclaimed: “The new immigration laws and policies that you enact will be nation changing.” Mann added: “They will affect every American for decades to come. And they will have a huge impact on our country’s social, economic and environmental future.”
Mann stated: “In addressing immigration, it is imperative that you consider how your actions will affect America’s population size and growth. With our nation now on track to a population of 400 million by mid-century – only 32 years from now – this is a critical time. We can put the brakes on the vast flow of immigrants in the years ahead and put America on a path to a smaller, truly sustainable, population.”
To meet that goal, NPG is running an “Open Letter to Congress” advertisement in national publications. The ad appeals to our nation’s legislators to “severely crack down on illegal immigration and radically scale back current legal immigration.” In addition, the ad states: “It is important to remember that immigration will soon be the major driving force behind America’s increasing population numbers, accounting for more than 80% of future growth.”
In all, NPG, a premier national grassroots organization, is mobilizing its thousands of members and supporters to contact their Senators and Members of Congress with a personal appeal to use the DACA debate to also address critical immigration-related issues including: national border security, chain migration, E-Verify, visa overstayers, the Visa Lottery, birthright citizenship, and long-overdue cuts in legal immigration.
With immigration being such a divisive “hot button” issue this may be the last time for quite a while that Congress makes critical decisions in this area. In addressing that reality, Mann concluded: “The immigration-related changes Congress makes now could be locked in for decades. We owe it to our children, grandchildren, and all generations to come, to get it right – and leave them a livable future.”
Founded in 1972, NPG is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to educating the American public and political leaders regarding the damaging effects of population growth. We believe that our nation is already vastly overpopulated in terms of the long-range carrying capacity of its resources and environment. NPG advocates the adoption of its Proposed National Population Policy, with the goal of eventually stabilizing U.S. population at a sustainable level – far lower than today’s. We do not simply identify the problems – we propose solutions.
