Walmart Dominates Amazon and Best Buy in Market Share for Key Categories
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (PRWEB) February 14, 2018 -- In 2017, American customers spent a significant amount of time and money shopping at retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart. Focusing on three key categories, TraQline compares the retailers’ market share trends for cell phones, consumer electronics and small kitchen appliances.
In a head to head comparison of 2017 unit shares for Amazon, Best Buy and Walmart, TraQline data shows that Walmart came out ahead in each of the three categories. In consumer electronics, Best Buy was neck and neck with Walmart – both capturing 26% of consumer purchases; however, Walmart dominated the other retailers in the cell phone and small kitchen appliance categories.
Amazon continues to lead in e-commerce, with double the share of its closest competitor (between Best Buy and Walmart) in all three categories. Despite this, both Best Buy and Walmart have shown significant growth due to increased omni-channel efforts.
“Looking at the three categories for each retailer, a different mix might tell a different story,” says Eric Voyer, TraQline’s vice president of sales and marketing. “but when it comes to these categories, Walmart is the winner overall. As more consumer durables shift to online sales, it will be interesting to see how Amazon’s competitors step up.”
