Camden Event Turns Children with Autism into Superheroes
CAMDEN, New Jersey (PRWEB) February 13, 2018 -- On Sunday, February 18, 2018, children with autism are invited to attend a free day of family fun at Superhero Autism Activity Day. The event will take place at The Salvation Army Kroc Center from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and is hosted by Centria Healthcare, the nation’s leading provider of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The purpose of the event is to provide a safe and judgment-free zone for children with autism and their families. Activities will include a superhero meet-and-greet, a professional photo booth, face painting, obstacle courses, bounce houses, puzzles, games, a snack table, a designated “quiet area” with arts & crafts, and more. To help parents find the resources they need to help their children succeed, Centria Healthcare will also have their trained behavioral health specialists on site to answer questions and guide them through the maze of questions and requirements related to accessing autism services in the state of New Jersey.
“We started Autism Activity Day events in 2016 as a way for the community, friends, and families to get together and enjoy fun activities, learning stations, and opportunities to meet new people and socialize. Ultimately, we just want kids to be able to be kids,” said Scott Barry, Chief Executive Officer at Centria Healthcare. “Historically, we’ve only hosted this type of event in Michigan, but since we’re now providing services in New Jersey, we are excited to offer it in Camden as well. We’re anticipating a great turnout, with 500 people registered online!”

About Autism: Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders – Autism Spectrum Disorders – caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by social and behavioral challenges, as well as repetitive behaviors. An estimated 1 in 45 children in the United States is on the autism spectrum, a 1,000 percent increase in the past 40 years that is partly explained by improved diagnosis and greater awareness.
Centria Healthcare is a leading provider of home-based catastrophic injury and rehabilitation services, private duty nursing, supportive living services, and Applied Behavior Analysis therapy for children with autism. With more than 2,000 trained clinical staff members across the country, Centria provides much needed support to families living with autism, from pre-diagnosis options to treatment planning to direct therapy services.
