PlaSmart Marks Milestone Anniversary – 15 Years of Smart Simple Toys
OTTAWA, Ontario (PRWEB) February 14, 2018 -- PlaSmart Inc., a Canadian-based, global toy distributor that chooses products that are smart, simple, and fun is proud to mark its fifteenth anniversary. As of February, 2018, PlaSmart’s fifteen years in business include fourteen consecutive years exhibiting at New York Toy Fair.
PlaSmart began in December, 2002 when Tim Kimber, the company’s founder was walking through a shopping mall in Ottawa Canada and met a man who was in business importing products from China to sell at retail. One of those products was an intriguing ride-on toy that was not powered by batteries, gears, or pedals, but by moving the steering wheel back and forth. “I was able to negotiate the rights to distribute and market the product under the name PlasmaCar® and, at the beginning of 2003, PlaSmart Inc. was created”, says PlaSmart CEO Tim Kimber.
What began as a plan to market PlasmaCars evolved into a Canadian-based, global toy distributor. New products were added, guided by PlaSmart’s mission: to discover, develop, acquire, and market one-of-a-kind toys that meet its ‘smart and simple' philosophy; to avoid toys that are difficult to understand; and to focus on delivering products that offer unique value to retailers and customers alike.
Strong brand values and quality products, tested to the highest standards, formed the foundation upon which PlaSmart was built. Sales exploded under PlaSmart’s results-oriented, entrepreneurial culture and the company expanded its reach internationally. In 2008 PlaSmart ranked thirteenth fastest-growing company in Canada and, in 2013 the eighth fastest-growing company in Canada.
Playing a significant role in PlaSmart’s success has been its fourteen years of exhibiting innovative toys and games at New York Toy Fair (NYTF). The tradition continues uninterrupted in 2018 when PlaSmart will introduce Smartivity, an exciting new line of STEM do-it-yourself toys, PAW Patrol PlasmaCars, the Kimber Verve 3-Wheel Junior Kick Scooter, and Watermelon Ball JR, a brightly colored, smaller version of the original Watermelon Ball®. The original Watermelon Ball was launched at NYTF in 2017 and won a spot as a finalist for the 2018 Outdoor Toy of the Year award. The 18th Annual Toy of the Year (TOTY) awards, known as the Oscars of the toy industry, will be presented on Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York.
